Doping Offenders Will Have to Pay a Fee

BK Sportpromotion plc., the organizing company of the biggest triathlon events of Switzerland is taking steps to effectively fight against the use of doping.

All athletes starting in professional categories (which enable them to win a monetary prize) at the IRONMAN SWITZERLAND in Zurich, at the IRONMAN 70.3 SWITZERLAND in Rapperswil-Jona or at the “Zueri Triathlon” will find a new passage in their contracts. Therein it is stated that athletes either tested positive in a doping tests or who unjustifiably resisted such a test within three months prior or after the contest will have to pay a fee of 25’000 Swiss francs to the aforementioned organizer.

According to Martin Koller, director of the BK Sportpromotion plc., doping offenders should not only be banned from sporting events for a certain amount of time, but additionally they should be subjugated to financial consequences. “After all, it is our goal to have fair and healthy athletes participating in our contests.”

Dr. Matthias Kamber, head of the expert committee “Doping” of Swiss Olympic and the division “Prevention and Research” of the Federal Office of Sport (Baspo) cannot think of any comparable proceeding by a sporting event organizer in the past. “I very much welcome the implementation of such contracts, because through them, organizers and athletes alike take on additional responsibility in the fight against the use of doping.”
